kennebunkport beach house
A full remodel of a post and beam house and guest quarters at beautiful Goose Rocks Beach. The clients purchased the home as a family summer compound and a place to eventually retire. The goal was to transform the 1990s home into a more modern take on a classic Maine cottage with a lighter and more open feel, while maintaining a sense of warmth and embracing relaxed comfort and charm. Our approach when designing for this house was to create a sense of history and place through thoughtful millwork details including custom vanities inspired by antique precedents, new railing and balusters for the central staircase, and the further layering of visual texture from painted paneling, nickel gap and wallpaper. The goal with the furnishings and decor was to create a collected look, mixing clean, modern pieces with primitive antiques and eclectic vintage accessories, creating something timeless yet reflecting the client’s love of bold color and pattern.
